A glomus tumour is a benign (noncancerous) growth that occurs in the glomus body, a small vessel located in the skin of the fingers or toes. It is a rare condition that typically affects people between the ages of 20 and 50.
Surgical excision is the primary treatment for a glomus tumour. The surgery involves removing the tumour and a small amount of surrounding tissue. The procedure is usually performed under general anaesthesia and may take several hours to complete.
The patient can expect to take several weeks to fully recover from the surgery. During this time, the patient will need to avoid any activities that could put stress on the affected area and will be instructed to follow a physical therapy program to regain strength and range of motion.
